The Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners has denied parole for former Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs, nearly five years after a deadly car crash killed 23-year-old Tina Tintor. The decision was released Thursday.
Ruggs, 27, pleaded guilty in May 2023 to felony DUI causing death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. He was sentenced in August 2023 to three to 10 years in prison.
During a parole hearing in May, Ruggs appeared via video conference from prison and expressed remorse. “Not a minute goes by where I don’t think of the pain I caused her family, her friends and the Las Vegas community,” he said.
The crash occurred in November 2021 when Ruggs, driving a Corvette Stingray, struck Tintor’s SUV on Rainbow Boulevard. The impact caused a fire that killed Tintor and her dog. Authorities reported Ruggs was driving up to 156 mph seconds before the crash and had a blood alcohol level of 0.16 percent, twice the legal limit.
Ruggs is currently incarcerated at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center, according to Nevada Department of Corrections records.
His attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, issued a statement Thursday expressing disappointment with the decision. “Mr. Ruggs, and our office, continue to feel the grief and loss suffered by Ms. Tintor’s family. However, we are disappointed by the Parole Board’s decision to deny parole despite overwhelming evidence of Mr. Ruggs having accepted responsibility for his conduct, having engaged in community outreach efforts related to DUI prevention, and having completed significant educational programs while in custody.”
