Five Homers Power A’s Past Brewers 7-5 in Las Vegas

The Athletics erupted for five solo home runs Tuesday night, erasing an early deficit to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-5 at Las Vegas Ballpark. The win evened the three-game series after both teams combined for 11 home runs in Monday’s opener.

Nick Kurtz started the barrage with a solo shot in the first inning after the Brewers had taken a 2-0 lead on Jackson Chourio’s two-run homer. Henry Bolte followed with his first career MLB home run, a two-run blast in the second that put the A’s ahead 3-2.

Milwaukee tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth on Sal Frelick’s RBI single, but the A’s responded in the fifth. Tyler Soderstrom launched a two-run homer and Jonah Heim added a solo shot to give Oakland a 6-3 lead.

“It was good to see the guys bounce back after a tough loss,” A’s manager Mark Kotsay said after the game.

Zack Gelof extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a solo homer in the sixth, providing an insurance run that proved crucial. The Brewers scored twice in the top of the sixth, including a run on a groundout and an RBI single by Christian Yelich, but reliever Elvis Alvarado struck out Chourio to end the threat.

Starting pitcher J.T. Ginn (2-2) earned the win, allowing five earned runs on eight hits over 5⅔ innings with five strikeouts. Mason Barnett recorded the save with two scoreless innings, striking out four.

Heim led the A’s offense with three hits. Garrett Mitchell had three hits for Milwaukee.

“We kept fighting and got some big hits when we needed them,” Heim said.

The series concludes Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. at Las Vegas Ballpark.
