Butler’s Seventh-Inning Blast Caps A’s Comeback Over Brewers

Trailing by two runs in the seventh inning, the Athletics erupted for three home runs to snatch a 4-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night at Las Vegas Ballpark.

Lawrence Butler delivered the decisive blow, a two-run homer to center field that scored Zack Gelof and put the A’s ahead. Gelof had extended his career-best hitting streak to 15 games with a double off the right-field wall earlier in the inning.

The rally began with Carlos Cortes, who did not play Tuesday, leading off the seventh with a solo home run to cut the deficit to 3-2. The A’s finished the three-game series with 15 homers.

Milwaukee had built a 3-0 lead on an RBI single by Andrew Vaughn in the first and solo homers from Gary Sanchez and Jackson Chourio in the second and third innings.

Alika Williams put the A’s on the board in the sixth with his first MLB home run, a line drive to left field that made it 3-1. Williams went 2-for-3 to lead the A’s offense.

Brewers starter Brandon Sproat tossed six quality innings, allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk, but received a no-decision.

The game featured an interruption of the ABS system. Home plate umpire Brock Ballou announced in the second inning that the automated ball-strike system was inoperable until further notice, then restored it before the bottom of the fourth. It was the second straight game at Las Vegas Ballpark with ABS issues.

The A’s (33-35) have an off day Thursday before hosting the Colorado Rockies for a three-game series starting Friday at 7:05 p.m.
