A’s Vegas ballpark on track for 2028 opening as first regular-season games arrive

The Athletics play their first regular-season games in Las Vegas in 30 years this week, but the team’s permanent home on the Strip is still two years from completion. Monday marks the start of a six-game homestand at Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin, where the A’s will host the Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies.

Construction of the 30,000-seat domed stadium, which broke ground in June 2025, remains on schedule for a Feb. 29, 2028, completion date. Over $400 million has been spent so far, with lower- and suite-level concourses built and concrete poured across the entire footprint. Steelwork is underway on all levels: the third level’s frame is about 75 percent complete, the fourth level about 50 percent. The first two steel roof trusses were installed last week, with additional truss work continuing through October before other roof work begins.

The ballpark’s budget stands at $2 billion, up from the initial $1.5 billion announced in 2023 and $1.75 billion in 2024. A’s owner John Fisher has funded over $1 billion of the project, including the first $400 million. Public funding of up to $380 million, authorized by Senate Bill 1 in 2021, will be tapped later this year or in early 2027. The team also has $300 million in construction loans from Goldman Sachs and U.S. Bank, and has secured investors including Aramark Sports + Entertainment ($100 million equity, $75 million capital expenditure) and a Korean group that includes BTS member Suga and former MLB pitcher Chan Ho Park ($70 million).

The stadium will feature 30,000 seats plus 3,000 standing-room spaces, and will be fully enclosed with air conditioning blowing from under the seats, as well as the world’s largest cable-net glass wall. Season tickets for field-level club spaces behind home plate are on sale now, with additional seating options available later this year. The A’s currently have about 60 full-time employees in Las Vegas, operating from an office at UNLV’s Black Fire Innovation building and a ballpark preview center at UnCommons. Once the stadium is built, team offices will move inside. No naming rights partner has been announced yet, though talks are ongoing.

For the 2027 season, the A’s will again play at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, California, where they have split time with the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats since leaving Oakland in 2025.
