The Vegas Golden Knights are expected to make a move before Friday’s NHL trade deadline, but don’t anticipate a blockbuster. After acquiring defenseman Rasmus Andersson from Calgary in January, general manager Kelly McCrimmon is more likely to add a role player than a star like Nazem Kadri or Robert Thomas.
With center William Karlsson potentially out for the season, the Knights could target a replacement down the middle or add scoring depth on the wing. Any deal would likely require salary retention. Here are four players who could fit:
Jason Dickinson — C, Chicago Blackhawks
The 30-year-old is a defensive-minded center with six goals and 13 points this season. He carries a $4.25 million cap hit and is an unrestricted free agent this summer. Chicago is selling as it builds around Connor Bedard.
Evan Rodrigues — F, Florida Panthers
The two-time defending Stanley Cup champions may sell if they fall out of playoff contention. Rodrigues, 32, is a bottom-six forward with consistent 30-point production and familiarity with Jack Eichel from their time in Buffalo. He has one year left at $3 million.
Michael Bunting — F, Nashville Predators
Nashville could hold a fire sale if the playoffs seem out of reach. Bunting, a two-time 20-goal scorer, has 13 goals and 31 points this season. He’s in the final year of his contract at a $4.5 million cap hit. The Knights and Predators have traded before, with Vegas sending Nic Hague to Nashville for Colton Sissons and Jeremy Lauzon in June.
Blake Coleman — F, Calgary Flames
Calgary is 10 points out of a playoff spot and selling. Coleman, 34, has 13 goals in 47 games and two Stanley Cup rings. He has one year left at $4.9 million. The Knights and Flames have a history of deals, including the Andersson trade.
The Knights continue their five-game road trip Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres.
