Shadow Ridge junior Melia Aionaaka delivered a dominant all-around performance Friday, going 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs while also earning the win in the circle as the Mustangs defeated Coronado 12-1 in softball action.
Aionaaka’s triple and run production powered Shadow Ridge to the lopsided victory. The Mustangs improved to a strong start this season behind their junior standout.
In other softball games, Palo Verde senior Taylor Johns hit two home runs to lead the Panthers past Bishop Gorman 8-0. Legacy senior Madison Castellon homered, doubled and drove in five runs in a 20-10 win over Cimarron-Memorial. Desert Oasis senior Kaitlyn Dunigan went 3-for-3 with a home run, double and four RBIs in a 22-0 rout of Valley. Foothill freshman Lexi Hall had two doubles and two RBIs as the Falcons beat Desert Pines 21-2. Doral Academy junior Megan Upp went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs in a 9-1 victory over Basic.
On the baseball diamond, Mojave freshman Elijah Agee went 4-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs to lead the Rattlers to a 12-5 win over Desert Pines. Centennial junior pitcher Tyler Bustamante tossed a complete-game five-hitter in a 5-1 win over Arbor View. Coronado junior Chase Delprete homered, doubled and drove in a run in a 3-0 victory over Park City (Utah). Palo Verde junior Chase Griffith homered, tripled and had an RBI in a 10-1 win over Carson. Cheyenne senior Taven Thaker had two triples and three RBIs in an 11-3 win over SLAM! Nevada.
Among the notable scores, Faith Lutheran topped Silverado 12-2 in baseball, and Durango beat Spring Valley 11-1. In softball, Faith Lutheran defeated Bonanza 14-8, and Pahrump Valley swept a doubleheader against Manti (Utah) 8-2 and Green Canyon (Utah) 14-4.
In boys volleyball, Sloan Canyon edged Las Vegas 3-2, while Snow Canyon (Utah) swept Virgin Valley 3-0.
