The Vegas Golden Knights made their first move of trade deadline week Tuesday, acquiring left wing Cole Smith from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2028 third-round pick and defenseman prospect Christoffer Sedoff.
The 30-year-old Smith, listed at 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, has 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 43 games this season. He has 62 career points in 270 NHL games, all with Nashville since 2020-21.
Smith played just a three-second shift in Nashville’s game Tuesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets before being pulled for asset management. He is expected to join the Knights for Wednesday’s game in Detroit, the finale of a five-game road trip.
“We’re going to miss two great people. Two big parts of our culture,” Predators coach Andrew Brunette said, referencing Smith and center Michael McCarron, who was traded to Minnesota earlier Tuesday. “They’re wonderful people. They’re kind of like family.”
The Knights are adding size and speed to their bottom six, areas general manager Kelly McCrimmon identified as priorities. This is the second trade between Vegas and Nashville since June, when the Knights sent defenseman Nic Hague to the Predators for center Colton Sissons and defenseman Jeremy Lauzon.
