The Vegas Golden Knights made their first move of trade deadline week Tuesday night, acquiring winger Cole Smith from the Nashville Predators. The cost was a 2028 third-round pick and defenseman prospect Cristoffer Sedoff.
Smith, 30, is an unrestricted free agent after this season and carries a $1 million cap hit. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound forward brings size and speed to the bottom six, elements the Knights have lacked up front.
In 42 games with Nashville this season, Smith has 10 points. He projects as a fourth-line contributor who can add a forechecking presence.
While the Knights needed to address forward depth, Smith is not a scorer. The team could still use more offensive-minded forwards before the Friday noon deadline.
