In a thrilling Friday night matchup, Liberty’s boys basketball team edged Bishop Gorman 58-56, snapping the Gaels’ winning streak. Senior Dante Steward led the Patriots with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Canyon Springs completed a frantic second-half rally, sinking key free throws in the final minute to escape with a 68-66 win over Silverado. Senior Gregory Paige logged 20 points, three rebounds and three assists for the Pioneers.
Palo Verde cruised past Del Sol 75-46 behind 27 points from senior Ethan Inocencio. The Meadows defeated Coral Academy 63-24, led by senior Ryan Kirk’s 11 points.
Girls basketball
Arbor View’s Daniella Lee, a sophomore, nailed a 3-pointer at the final buzzer to lift the Aggies over Cimarron-Memorial 59-56. Jasmine Ponce of Cimarron-Memorial had 16 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks in the loss.
Democracy Prep edged Centennial 60-59 as senior Bray’ana Miles hit the go-ahead free throw, finishing with 15 points, eight rebounds, five steals and three assists. Losee cruised to a 90-19 win over Tech, with senior Jayla Lewis hitting six 3-pointers and scoring 21 points.
Mater East’s sophomore Myla Faught scored 23 points in a 71-14 rout of Rancho.
Flag football
Green Valley’s Janae Peebles completed 21 of 37 passes for 309 yards and five touchdowns in a 38-0 win over Sloan Canyon. Cadence’s Elise Kemble had 14 catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns, plus an interception, in a 40-0 victory over Coral Academy.
Canyon Springs junior Jalaigh Brooks passed for 175 yards and two touchdowns in a 19-0 shutout of Doral Academy. Shadow Ridge’s Mariah Stevens-Walden caught a TD pass and nabbed an interception in an 18-13 win over Tech. Centennial’s Audrey Vann recorded 11 tackles in a 41-12 win over Cimarron-Memorial.
