Knights Lock Up Coghlan for Two Years at $875K Cap Hit

The Vegas Golden Knights have completed their blue line for the upcoming season by signing defenseman Dylan Coghlan to a two-year contract extension, a source confirmed Wednesday. The one-way deal carries an annual cap hit of $875,000, positioning the 28-year-old as a likely roster regular.

Coghlan earned the extension after a strong playoff debut. He stepped into the lineup during the second round against Anaheim, replacing Kaedan Korczak, and recorded three points in 13 postseason games. His first career playoff goal came in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final against Colorado.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2017, Coghlan worked his way up from the AHL to make his NHL debut in 2021. He scored a hat trick against the Wild on March 10, 2021, and played a career-high 59 games in 2021-22 before being traded to Carolina as part of the Max Pacioretty deal in July 2022. He returned to Vegas last July on a one-year contract and posted a career-best 44 points in 62 games with the Henderson Silver Knights.

With Coghlan’s deal, the Knights now have seven defensemen under contract, joining re-signed Rasmus Andersson and Jeremy Lauzon, as well as Parker Wortherspoon, acquired in a trade Tuesday.
