Flag football, basketball standouts shine in Monday’s high school action

Monday’s high school sports slate delivered blowouts and tight finishes across flag football and basketball, with several players posting eye-catching numbers.

In flag football, Desert Oasis senior Akiko Higa caught seven passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-12 win over Mater East. Clark senior Taedyn Parks threw four touchdown passes and added a rushing score as the Chargers routed Western 47-7. Durango senior Leiah Bisococho passed for 155 yards and a touchdown in a 21-0 shutout of Del Sol. Amplus Academy senior Ashley Galvis rushed for three first-quarter touchdowns before the game against Sunrise Mountain ended early due to an altercation involving a Miners coach; the Archers won 21-0. Mojave sophomore Anuhea Sauiluma scored two touchdowns and intercepted two passes in a 26-12 victory over Cadence.

On the hardwood, Arbor View junior Landon Woods scored 20 points in an 84-65 boys basketball win over Civica. In girls basketball, Legacy junior Shakeira Phillips poured in a game-high 22 points to lead the Longhorns past Durango 56-41. Palo Verde senior Reagan Nehls posted 17 points and six rebounds in a 52-23 win over Clark. Bishop Gorman junior Anna Barragan led all scorers with 15 points as the Gaels crushed Faith Lutheran 74-18. Eldorado junior Madeline Ixehuatl recorded 13 points and nine rebounds in a 41-38 victory over Doral Academy. Durango freshman Lailah Cole scored 17 points in a 56-41 loss to Legacy.
