Nick Garritano, a UNLV Athletics Hall of Famer and the longtime baseball coach at the College of Southern Nevada, has been named the new head coach of the Rebels’ baseball program, the university announced Friday.
Garritano, who kicked for the UNLV football team from 1991 to 1994 and ranks second all-time in scoring with 240 points, takes over after Stan Stolte retired last week. Stolte, 64, spent 16 seasons with the Rebels, including nine as head coach.
“The opportunity to take over the UNLV baseball program is truly a dream come true,” Garritano said in a statement. “Having lived in Las Vegas for 48 years, I grew up watching and supporting every aspect of UNLV athletics, creating a lifelong connection to the university.”
Garritano, a Chaparral High graduate, spent 16 years as head coach at CSN, compiling a 632-271 record. He led the Coyotes to NJCAA World Series appearances in 2017 and 2024, produced 22 MLB draft selections and eight NJCAA All-Americans.
“After coaching at Green Valley High School and the College of Southern Nevada for the past 28 years, leading the baseball program at UNLV brings my journey in our wonderful community full circle,” said Garritano.
Under Stolte, the Rebels had 16 players drafted in the past seven years, 22 All-Americans and five conference pitchers of the year.
