WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Seattle Mariners slugged four home runs Monday night, pulling within 1½ games of the first-place Athletics with a 9-2 victory at Sutter Health Park.
Seattle broke the game open with a six-run third inning keyed by two-run homers from Luke Raley and Dominic Canzone. Randy Arozarena added an RBI double in that frame and later crushed a two-run shot in the ninth. J.P. Crawford also went deep for the Mariners.
Starter Luis Castillo tossed four scoreless innings before handing off to Bryce Miller, who earned the win by working five innings of relief. Miller (1-0) allowed two runs on three hits while striking out four.
Aaron Civale took the loss for Oakland, surrendering six runs on six hits over 2⅔ innings.
Athletics slugger Nick Kurtz extended his on-base streak to 48 games with a walk in the third inning, tying the single-season franchise record set by Mark McGwire in 1995. Kurtz, the reigning AL Rookie of the Year, also matched Albert Pujols (2001) for the fifth-longest such streak by a player 23 or younger.
The A’s, who plan to relocate to Las Vegas in 2028, fell to 38-24 while the Mariners improved to 37-26.
