The Meadows boys basketball team punched its ticket to the Class 3A Southern Region final with a dominant 69-29 win over Pahrump Valley on Friday night at Pahrump Valley.
The top-seeded Mustangs (21-6) will face No. 2 Virgin Valley (20-4) on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pahrump Valley for the region championship. The winner earns a berth in the 3A state tournament next week at Fernley High.
Alex Hutchison led The Meadows with 16 points. Pahrump Valley, the No. 5 seed, ends its season at 11-16.
In the other boys semifinal, Virgin Valley rolled past No. 3 Boulder City 66-44.
Girls 3A
Boulder City’s girls also advanced to the region final, edging No. 2 Coral Academy 46-42. Kyra Stevens posted 13 points and 16 rebounds, and Makenzie Martorano added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles (16-13). Coral Academy finishes 18-6.
Boulder City will face top-seeded Virgin Valley (20-7) for the region title at noon Saturday at Pahrump Valley. Virgin Valley beat No. 4 Pahrump Valley 61-16 in the other semifinal; Pahrump Valley ends at 14-12.
Class 2A
In 2A girls action, No. 2 Lincoln County (22-4) routed No. 3 White Pine 57-21 at Faith Lutheran. The Lynx will play top-seeded Needles (15-6) for the region title at noon Saturday at Faith Lutheran, with the state tournament at Wooster High in Reno on the line. Needles defeated No. 5 American Heritage 58-16 in the other semifinal; American Heritage finishes 10-11.
In 2A boys, top-seeded Needles (21-3) crushed No. 4 White Pine 93-54 at Faith Lutheran. The Mustangs will face No. 2 Lake Mead Academy (15-8) for the region title at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran. Lake Mead Academy beat No. 3 Founders Academy 66-49; Founders ends at 11-6.
Class 1A
In the 1A Central League semifinals at Tonopah, the girls saw No. 3 Beatty upset No. 2 Tonopah 35-32, while No. 1 Round Mountain beat No. 4 Indian Springs 73-33. The league title game is Saturday at noon between Beatty and Round Mountain.
In boys Central League semifinals, No. 1 Tonopah defeated No. 4 Indian Springs 50-33, and No. 2 Spring Mountain beat No. 3 Round Mountain 71-57. The boys title game is Saturday at 2 p.m. between Spring Mountain and Tonopah.
In the 1A Southern League semifinals at Sandy Valley, the girls saw No. 1 Pahranagat Valley rout No. 4 Sandy Valley 45-10, and No. 2 Laughlin beat No. 3 Beaver Dam 64-34. The girls title game is Saturday at noon between Pahranagat Valley and Laughlin.
In boys Southern League semifinals, No. 1 Pahranagat Valley beat No. 4 Liberty Baptist 59-49, and No. 2 Word of Life defeated No. 3 Beaver Dam 76-59. The boys title game is Saturday at 2 p.m. between Word of Life and Pahranagat Valley.
