Cimarron-Memorial’s girls basketball team extended its winning streak with a dominant defensive performance Thursday night, holding Chaparral to just 16 points in a 57-16 victory at home.
Jasmine Ponce flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 21 points, eight rebounds, eight steals and seven assists for the Spartans (12-3). Kiera Kauhi contributed 14 points, six steals and four assists.
The Spartans jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, forcing turnovers and converting them into fast-break points. Cimarron-Memorial’s pressure defense stifled Chaparral’s offense throughout the contest.
Chaparral (3-9) struggled to find rhythm against the Spartans’ full-court press. R’breial Hicks led the Cowboys with a team-high scoring effort.
Both teams return to action Friday. Cimarron-Memorial hosts Cheyenne at 5 p.m., while Chaparral travels to Rancho for a 5 p.m. tip-off.
