Liberty, Bishop Gorman set for Friday showdown to decide No. 1 in 5A boys rankings

The top two teams in the Review-Journal’s Class 5A boys basketball rankings will meet Friday night at Liberty in a game that will determine the No. 1 spot. Liberty (17-5) holds the top position, while Bishop Gorman (14-8) sits at No. 2. Coronado (11-7), Desert Pines (14-7), and Mojave (15-6) round out the top five.

In Class 4A, Clark (13-5) leads the rankings, followed by Las Vegas High (16-5), Faith Lutheran (16-7), Shadow Ridge (17-5), and Legacy (15-7). The Meadows (17-5) tops Class 3A, with Virgin Valley (15-4), Boulder City (14-9), Pahrump Valley (9-12), and GV Christian (12-10) behind them.

On the girls side, Bishop Gorman (15-3) remains No. 1 in Class 5A, ahead of Centennial (15-5), Democracy Prep (10-6), Liberty (15-9), and Shadow Ridge (7-7). Mojave (15-5) leads Class 4A, and Virgin Valley (14-7) tops Class 3A.

In flag football, Shadow Ridge (16-1) is the top-ranked team in Class 5A, followed by Desert Oasis (14-1), Arbor View (17-2), Liberty (11-3), and Palo Verde (15-5). Virgin Valley (10-3) leads Class 4A.

Key games this week include Tuesday’s matchup between Democracy Prep and Liberty in boys basketball, and Wednesday’s girls game between Liberty and Democracy Prep at Doolittle Community Center. The marquee event, however, is Friday’s boys clash between Bishop Gorman and Liberty at 6:30 p.m.
