The Vegas Golden Knights continued their stranglehold on the San Jose Sharks with a 7-2 victory Sunday night at SAP Center, extending their winning streak over their Pacific Division rivals to 11 games and completing a four-game season sweep.
Tomas Hertl, who spent a decade with the Sharks before being traded to Vegas in 2023, tormented his former team with two goals and three assists. “I have no explanation for it,” Hertl said. “But it’s nice to be on this side because I love to win.”
The Knights (21-11-12) have now won four straight overall and improved to 31-2-5 against San Jose since entering the league in 2017. They have never lost in regulation at SAP Center. “Vegas was just dominant from day one,” Hertl added.
Jack Eichel also scored twice, while Mark Stone saw his career-best goal streak end at seven games but contributed three assists. Pavel Dorofeyev added a goal and two assists. Rookie goaltender Carl Lindbom made 18 saves to earn his second NHL win, both against the Sharks.
The Knights killed all five San Jose power plays and converted two of their own four opportunities. They held Sharks phenom Macklin Celebrini without a point, snapping his 13-game point streak. Celebrini, 19, entered the game third in NHL scoring with 78 points.
Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy praised Hertl’s performance, particularly his faceoff work. “I’m sure he likes coming back and playing here,” Cassidy said. “He probably has terrific memories from years ago and sometimes when you come back into a building you’re familiar with, you just feel it a bit.”
The Knights were without forward Brett Howden (lower-body injury) and several other regulars, including goaltenders Adin Hill and Carter Hart, but got defenseman Shea Theodore back from a month-long absence. Theodore scored in each game of the back-to-back set, including an empty-netter Sunday.
