HENDERSON — The Palo Verde boys basketball team leaned on a balanced attack and a strong defensive effort Wednesday night to knock off top-seeded Foothill 66-55 in the Class 4A Southern Region quarterfinals.
Ethan Inocencio poured in 20 points to lead the third-seeded Panthers (18-7) from the Desert League, while Tavien Phoenix added 10 points and 15 rebounds. The Falcons (15-13), the Sky League champions, saw their season end on their home floor.
Palo Verde advances to face Clark in the semifinals at Foothill at 4:40 p.m. Friday.
In other boys 4A quarterfinal action, No. 1D Clark defeated No. 2M Shadow Ridge 66-45 behind CJ Edwards’ five 3-pointers in the third quarter. No. 1M Legacy beat No. 2D Durango 94-64 as Zayden Jeffries scored 34 points. No. 1L Las Vegas edged No. 3M Sky Pointe 57-55 on Hunter Iverson’s two free throws with one second left; Iverson finished with 19 points.
In girls basketball, the 5A state quarterfinals saw No. 1 Bishop Gorman rout No. 8 Legacy 81-12 behind Addysen Carr’s 19 points. No. 4 Coronado defeated No. 5 Liberty 58-52 as Scarlet Lopez posted 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals. No. 3 Shadow Ridge beat No. 6 Faith Lutheran 58-34.
In 4A Southern Region girls quarterfinals, No. 1D Mojave held off No. 2M Desert Oasis 70-60. No. 2L Mater East topped No. 1S Foothill 62-56. No. 1M Sierra Vista beat No. 3L Las Vegas 72-48 behind Donnayja Gibson’s 24 points. No. 1L Losee defeated No. 2S Del Sol 70-34 as Jordynn Riggins scored 17 points.
In 3A state girls quarterfinals, No. 4 Pahrump Valley beat No. 5 Moapa Valley 43-24 as Riley Saldana had 13 points and 11 rebounds. No. 3 Boulder City defeated No. 6 The Meadows 55-22 behind Kendall Shamo’s 16 points.
