LAS VEGAS — The Clark boys basketball team left no doubt in its Class 4A Southern Region first-round playoff game Monday, routing Valley 75-41 at home.
The Chargers (17-5) raced to a 13-0 lead and never looked back, forcing a running clock late in the third quarter. Senior forward Devan Christion led all scorers with 26 points, while sophomore guard CJ Edwards added 17, junior guard Sir Montgomery chipped in 16, and senior guard Amir Wright contributed 10.
Clark coach Brent Rothman acknowledged early jitters but praised his team’s response. “We were a little nervous to start … but we picked it up and played with intensity,” he said. “We stayed disciplined down the stretch.”
The Chargers, the Desert League’s top seed, dominated on both ends. Christion and senior guard Drake Afe-Passion anchored the interior defense, limiting Valley (8-15) — the Lake League’s No. 4 seed — to just 24 points by halftime.
Senior guard Galen Smith led the Vikings with nine points, and junior guard John Medeiros scored eight.
Christion, who has committed to Akron, credited the team’s energy. “The energy coming off the bench and on the court was amazing,” he said. “Everybody knew what the outcome was today. We just wanted to win, and we showed them.”
Clark hosts Shadow Ridge on Wednesday in the second round.
