Raiders eye Broncos QB coach Davis Webb as next head coach, per report

The Las Vegas Raiders have identified Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach Davis Webb as their top candidate to become the next head coach, according to a report. The Raiders are one of seven teams with a head-coaching vacancy after the New York Giants hired John Harbaugh and the Atlanta Falcons hired Kevin Stefanski.

Webb, who also serves as the Broncos’ passing-game coordinator, is regarded as an innovative and charismatic leader. The Raiders believe he has the potential to develop into a Sean McVay or Kyle Shanahan-level coach. They are prepared to provide him with financial, staffing, and supportive resources, including counsel from Tom Brady.

Las Vegas has a complete understanding of where they are in their rebuild and are willing to think outside the box. Webb is seen as a head-coach-in-waiting who needs some seasoning, but the Raiders have the time to build him the necessary runway.

Here is a ranking of all seven NFL openings, with predictions for who will fill them:

1. Baltimore Ravens

Prediction: Jesse Minter, Chargers defensive coordinator. Minter is a bright defensive mind who previously served as a Ravens assistant from 2017 to 2020.

2. Las Vegas Raiders

Prediction: Davis Webb, Broncos quarterbacks coach/passing-game coordinator.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers

Prediction: Jeff Hafley, Packers defensive coordinator. Hafley, 46, fits the Steelers’ mold of tough, defensive-minded coaches like Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher, and Mike Tomlin.

4. Tennessee Titans

Prediction: Matt Nagy, Chiefs offensive coordinator. Nagy’s relationship with GM Mike Borgonzi and his offensive expertise could help develop young QB Cam Ward.

5. Miami Dolphins

Prediction: Chris Shula, Rams defensive coordinator. Shula, grandson of Don Shula, is a top head-coaching prospect at age 39.

6. Arizona Cardinals

Prediction: Vance Joseph, Broncos defensive coordinator. Joseph’s disciplined approach could fix the Cardinals’ culture, if he presents a solid offensive plan.

7. Cleveland Browns

Prediction: Mike McDaniel, former Dolphins head coach. McDaniel’s offensive acumen could unlock young QB Shedeur Sanders.
