Palo Verde’s boys and Coronado’s girls added to their championship legacies Friday at Pavilion Center Pool, winning the Class 5A Southern Region team titles in dominant fashion.
The Palo Verde boys scored 341 points, well ahead of Bishop Gorman (291.5) and Arbor View (276.5). The Panthers have won 11 consecutive boys state titles in the top classification and will aim for another at Saturday’s 5A state meet, also at Pavilion Center Pool. The diving portion of the state meet takes place Friday night at UNLV’s Buchanan Natatorium.
Coronado’s girls ran away with the region crown, totaling 501.5 points. Palo Verde and Bishop Gorman tied for second with 355 each. The Cougars have won the last four 5A girls state team titles.
Owen Robertson led Palo Verde’s boys with individual wins in the 200-yard individual medley (1 minute, 50.60 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (46.57 seconds). The two-time first-team All-Southern Nevada selection is the defending state champion in the 200 IM. The Panthers also won both the 200-yard medley relay (1:39.25) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.13).
For Coronado’s girls, Ana Schulz and Grace Carrington each captured two individual titles. Schulz, a three-time first-team All-Southern Nevada pick, won the 100-yard freestyle (53.04) and 100-yard backstroke (57.69). Carrington, a 2025 first-team All-Southern Nevada selection, took the 50-yard freestyle (24.18) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.12). She is the defending state champion in both events. The Cougars swept the three relays: 200-yard medley (1:47.65), 200-yard freestyle (1:40.94), and 400-yard freestyle (3:35.68).
Class 4A
Desert League
Liberty swept the boys and girls team titles Thursday at Pavilion Center Pool. The Liberty boys scored 424 points, topping Clark (302) and Desert Oasis (203). The Patriots won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:38.64) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:31.51). The Liberty girls posted 449 points, ahead of Durango (271) and Green Valley (226), and won the 200-yard medley (2:00.57), 200-yard freestyle (1:49.42), and 400-yard freestyle (4:11.22) relays. The 4A state meet is Thursday at Pavilion Center Pool, with diving Friday at UNLV’s Buchanan Natatorium.
Mountain League
Shadow Ridge’s boys edged Foothill 289-271 for the team title, with Basic third at 263. Shadow Ridge won the 200-yard medley relay (1:49.23). Foothill’s girls took the title with 372.5 points, followed by Shadow Ridge (298) and Basic (247). The Falcons won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:55.80).
Class 3A
Boulder City swept the boys and girls region titles Friday. The boys scored 524 points, far ahead of The Adelson School (310) and Virgin Valley (212). The girls posted 369 points, beating The Adelson School (304) and Virgin Valley (249). The 3A state meet is Saturday at Pavilion Center Pool, with diving Friday at UNLV’s Buchanan Natatorium.
