UFC CEO Dana White is set for the most consequential week of his career as he simultaneously launches a streaming-era UFC and a new boxing promotion. On Saturday, the UFC will break from its traditional pay-per-view model by airing an event at T-Mobile Arena exclusively on Paramount+, a move White says will make fights more affordable and accessible. That same weekend, his long-anticipated boxing venture, Zuffa Boxing, debuts Friday at the Meta Apex with a card headlined by Callum Walsh vs. Carlos Ocampo.
White’s entry into boxing fulfills a lifelong ambition. He began in Boston boxing gyms before pivoting to mixed martial arts, where he built the UFC into a global powerhouse. Despite often criticizing boxing’s mismanagement, he has long harbored a passion for the sport. Zuffa Boxing aims to deliver regular events and build stars, contrasting with what White calls the sport’s “going-out-of-business” pay-per-view approach.
The streaming deal with Paramount+ resolves the UFC’s previous model that required a subscription plus an additional pay-per-view fee. Fighters may gain broader exposure through CBS platforms, as seen when Brian Ortega and Mackenzie Dern appeared at the Golden Globes. However, questions remain about how fighters who previously earned pay-per-view revenue shares will be compensated under the new model. White has pledged to address this, backed by the UFC’s $7.7 billion valuation.
White’s boxing push has drawn criticism. Some boxing figures oppose his efforts to amend the Ali Act, which would allow TKO to apply the UFC model to boxing. Skeptics also wonder if White’s focus on a new league will dilute his attention from the UFC. A promotional video for Zuffa Boxing featured Max Kellerman calling White a visionary who can restore boxing’s lost aura, leading some to worry the promotion will center on White rather than the fighters.
Nevertheless, White’s track record as a disruptor suggests the boxing world should brace for impact. As one week reshapes the UFC’s future and launches his boxing dream, the combat sports landscape is poised for change.
