A woman went into labor on the seventh floor of Rogers Place during the second period of Saturday’s game between the Vegas Golden Knights and Edmonton Oilers, according to a report from Sportsnet. The birth was announced before the third period began.
No further details, including the baby’s sex or name, have been disclosed. The timing of the event offered a rare bright spot for Oilers fans, as the Golden Knights defeated Edmonton 5-1 in the final regular-season meeting between the division rivals.
This is not the first time a birth has occurred at a professional sporting event. In 2015, a woman gave birth during a San Diego Padres-San Francisco Giants baseball game at Petco Park. In that instance, a midwife who was working as a nurse at the ballpark assisted with the delivery of a baby boy around the third inning.
