WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sandy Alcantara won his seventh consecutive start Saturday night, striking out a season-high eight over eight innings as the Miami Marlins beat the Oakland Athletics 7-2.
The right-hander allowed one run on six hits and one walk, lowering his ERA to 2.91. Tyler Zuber pitched a scoreless ninth for Miami (48-42), which has won eight of its last 11.
Otto Lopez, named to his first All-Star team earlier in the day, went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and an RBI double. The National League hits leader now has 38 multi-hit games before the break, a Marlins franchise record.
Joe Mack led off the third inning with a 449-foot home run off A’s starter Aaron Civale, his third homer in four games. After Liam Hicks singled, Lopez followed with his seventh homer to make it 3-0.
Kyle Stowers added a two-run shot in the seventh, his 11th of the season. Hicks finished with three hits, and the Marlins pounded out 13 total.
Civale (5-6) allowed four runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings, striking out six. The A’s (35-55) have lost four of five on their homestand and 10 of 13 overall. Joshua Kuroda-Grauer and Carlos Cortes each had two hits.
The series concludes Sunday with Miami’s Eury Perez (4-6, 4.21) facing Oakland lefty Gage Jump (3-2, 2.29).
