McClerkin powers Legacy to 14-9 win over SLAM! in 4A softball elimination game

Amelia McClerkin slugged a home run and drove in four runs Friday as Legacy defeated SLAM! Nevada 14-9 in a 4A state softball losers bracket game. The Mountain League’s top seed, playing at home, avoided elimination and will host Sierra Vista at 11 a.m. Saturday in another win-or-go-home contest.

Victoria Beebe went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Legacy, while Sofia Nazario added two hits and two RBIs. SLAM!, the Sky League’s third seed, was eliminated.

In other 4A playoff action, Sierra Vista routed Las Vegas 21-0 in three innings. Kyleah Barnes homered and drove in four runs, Jaylen White had a double, triple and four RBIs, and Taryn Thomson contributed two hits and four RBIs. Tech scored 16 straight runs after falling behind 1-0 to beat Cimarron-Memorial 16-1 in three innings. Silverado advanced via forfeit over Clark.

In the 3A Southern Region playoffs, Pahrump Valley defeated Virgin Valley 9-0 behind Evalynne Armendariz’s two hits and two RBIs. The Trojans advanced to Saturday’s championship game at 10 a.m. in Boulder City. Virgin Valley bounced back from the loss to beat Moapa Valley 10-0 in a losers bracket final, earning a rematch with Pahrump. Moapa Valley earlier eliminated Boulder City 8-5.

In 2A, White Pine edged Needles 12-11, Lincoln County beat Lake Mead 17-2, and Needles bounced back to rout Lincoln County 11-1. In 1A, Pahranagat Valley crushed Round Mountain 17-2, Laughlin defeated Indian Springs 13-7, and Round Mountain eliminated Laughlin 14-1.

In 4A baseball, Spring Valley beat Del Sol 14-4 in six innings. Braeden Cushenberry and Vincent Perrone each went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Western topped Doral Academy 4-1 behind Daniel Garcia Tapia’s 4-for-4, two-RBI performance. Rancho blanked Canyon Springs 13-0, and Cheyenne beat SLAM! Nevada 12-2 behind Cole Steiner’s three RBIs and Brody Jeahn’s five-hitter.

In 3A baseball, Boulder City edged The Meadows 8-6 to reach Saturday’s 10 a.m. championship against Virgin Valley, which beat Pahrump Valley 4-3 in 12 innings and then defeated The Meadows 11-10 in the semifinals. In 2A, Needles beat White Pine 16-3, Lake Mead shut out Lincoln County 14-0, and Lake Mead then defeated White Pine 11-8. In 1A, Pahranagat Valley beat Liberty Baptist 18-3, Tonopah defeated Round Mountain 15-7, and Liberty Baptist beat Tonopah 18-10.
