In a match that will be remembered for its extraordinary fifth set, No. 5 Arbor View outlasted No. 3 Palo Verde 22-25, 25-21, 26-24, 43-41 on Monday night at Arbor View High School. The final set alone featured 84 points, with the Aggies finally securing the win after multiple match points for both sides.
Risden Miller powered Arbor View (24-13-1, 4-3 5A Southern League) with 21 kills and 12 digs. Kenyon Wickliffe added 12 kills, and Owen Wenger contributed 10 kills and five blocks. The Aggies needed every bit of that production to counter Palo Verde’s balanced attack.
Evan Ditmar led the Panthers (16-5, 4-3) with 25 kills and 12 digs. Jagger Mendenhall dished out 48 assists, and Andrew Gutierrez added 21 kills. Palo Verde fought off several match points in the decisive set before finally falling.
Arbor View travels to No. 2 Shadow Ridge on Wednesday at 6 p.m., while Palo Verde visits No. 4 Basic at the same time.
