Vegas Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon confirmed Friday that center William Karlsson will not be in the lineup for Game 1 of the first-round playoff series against the Utah Mammoth on Sunday at T-Mobile Arena. Karlsson continues to rehab a lower-body injury that has kept him out since Nov. 8.
McCrimmon said the rest of the roster that played in the regular-season finale Wednesday is healthy. He offered an update on Karlsson’s progress: “He’s further along than the last time I saw you guys.”
Karlsson, 33, has not played since suffering the injury during the first period against the Anaheim Ducks on Nov. 8. He did the first intermission interview that night but did not return for the second period. He has seven points in 14 games this season.
In March, McCrimmon indicated that Karlsson would need the Knights to have “some success in the playoffs for him to play again.” The team did not place him on season-ending long-term injured reserve, preserving the possibility of a return if the cap allows.
Karlsson, selected by Vegas in the 2017 expansion draft, has played 569 of his 752 career games with the Knights. He is known as one of the “Original Misfits.”
