Less than 14 minutes into Thursday’s game, the Vegas Golden Knights had already put the Los Angeles Kings away.
Mark Stone, Jack Eichel, Pavel Dorofeyev and Mitch Marner each scored during a 5:20 span in the first period, propelling the Golden Knights to a 4-1 victory at T-Mobile Arena. The win was Vegas’s second straight and sent the team into the Olympic break on a high note.
Stone finished with a goal and two assists. Eichel and Dorofeyev each had a goal and an assist, while Marner added a goal. The outburst came on the Knights’ first six shots of the game.
Los Angeles goaltender Anton Forsberg stopped 18 of 22 shots. The Kings (23-19-14) have lost four of their last five games and sit outside the playoff picture.
Trevor Moore scored on a breakaway at 15:03 of the first period to cut Vegas’s lead to 4-1, but that was all the Kings could muster against Adin Hill, who made 32 saves in his sharpest performance since returning from a three-month absence due to a lower-body injury.
The Golden Knights (27-16-14) played the second night of a back-to-back after defeating the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 on Wednesday. The Kings also were on the second half of a back-to-back, having lost 4-2 to the Seattle Kraken at home.
With the win, Vegas holds a four-point lead for first place in the Pacific Division with a game in hand on the Edmonton Oilers. The team now heads into a three-week break, with several players set to represent their countries at the Winter Olympics in Italy.
