ANAHEIM, Calif. — J.T. Ginn was one out away from history. Instead, he walked off the mound with a loss.
The Athletics right-hander carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning Monday night, only to see it vanish on Adam Frazier’s leadoff single. Two pitches later, Zach Neto crushed a 2-0 sinker to center field for a walk-off two-run homer, giving the Los Angeles Angels a 2-1 victory.
Ginn (2-2) had been dominant, striking out 10 and walking one over eight hitless innings. He hit Neto with a pitch in the sixth but otherwise faced the minimum until the ninth. The 26-year-old, who turns 27 on Wednesday, set a career high with his 10th strikeout to end the seventh.
The A’s broke a scoreless tie in the top of the ninth when pinch-hitter Lawrence Butler delivered an RBI single. But the lead evaporated in the bottom half.
Frazier lined an 0-2 pitch over shortstop for a clean single, the Angels’ third baserunner of the night. Neto then deposited the first pitch he saw from Ginn into the bleachers for his eighth home run of the season.
It was the 30th career start for Ginn, who made his major league debut in August 2024. He threw 105 pitches, 64 for strikes. The Angels have not been no-hit since Sept. 11, 1999, the longest active streak in the majors.
