Golden Knights seek offensive spark amid 147-minute goal drought

The Vegas Golden Knights are searching for answers after being shut out in consecutive games, a stretch of 147 minutes without a goal. The team managed 10 goals in the first two games of their homestand but has since gone cold, losing to the Buffalo Sabres and Utah Mammoth.

Coach Bruce Cassidy emphasized the need for a simpler approach, especially with no practice time on the horizon. The Knights face a grueling three-game road trip in four days, starting Saturday against the Nashville Predators. “We won’t practice,” Cassidy said. “At home, there was an opportunity if we wanted to push that button. That’s gone. The opportunity is lost.”

The team’s lack of scoring has been compounded by missed shots. Against Utah, the Knights had 28 missed shots, following 20 against Buffalo. Cassidy noted at least three instances in the Utah loss where players made an extra pass instead of shooting. “This is a veteran group,” Cassidy said. “They need to understand, you can’t rest. … There has to be a certain level of comprehension from the players that, ‘I’m not on the ice every day, I’m resting, so we’re going to dumb it down a little and just put pucks to the net.’”

Despite the struggles, the Pacific Division remains tight. The Knights are two points behind the first-place Anaheim Ducks and one point back of the Edmonton Oilers. They hold a four-point lead over the Los Angeles Kings for the second wild card. “I think when you get to this time of year, you’re starting to pay attention (to the standings), for sure,” defenseman Noah Hanifin said. “We don’t have too many games left here. We’ve got to get on a bit of a run here and give ourselves some ground.”

The Knights face the Predators at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the game airing on KMCC-34.
