Kevin Johnson, who played defensive line for the Oakland Raiders during the 1997 season, was killed in what authorities have ruled a homicide. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reported that the 55-year-old former NFL player died from blunt head trauma and stab wounds.
Johnson was found unconscious at a homeless encampment and pronounced dead on Wednesday. The investigation is ongoing.
Originally drafted by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 1993 NFL Draft, Johnson also played for the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles. During his two seasons with the Eagles, he recorded 43 tackles, seven sacks, and returned a fumble for a touchdown.
