Las Vegas will host the long-awaited rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, with the bout scheduled for Sept. 19 at Sphere. Netflix announced Monday that the event will be livestreamed on its platform, marking the first boxing match at the state-of-the-art venue.
The announcement came one day before Mayweather’s 49th birthday. Pacquiao is 47. The two boxing legends first met in 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, where Mayweather won by unanimous decision. That fight generated a $72 million gate from 16,219 fans and 4.4 million pay-per-view buys, pulling in more than $400 million.
“I already fought and beat Manny once,” Mayweather said in a statement. “This time will be the same result.”
Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KOs) countered, “Floyd and I gave the world what is still the biggest fight in boxing history. The fans have waited long enough — they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger since it will be streamed live globally on Netflix.” He added, “I want Floyd to be forever haunted by the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him.”
Netflix’s vice president of sports, Gabe Spitzer, recalled spending time in both fighters’ training camps. “Bringing this rematch to Netflix is a massive ‘full circle’ moment,” he said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to combine their storied rivalry with the immersive technology of Sphere to deliver a landmark sporting event to our members worldwide.”
Sphere previously hosted UFC 306 in September 2024, which produced a $22 million gate. UFC president Dana White later said the high production costs — over $20 million — made another event there unlikely. Mayweather-Pacquiao 2 will be the second combat sports event at the venue.
Before the rematch, Pacquiao is scheduled for an exhibition against Russia’s Ruslan Provodnikov on April 18 at the Thomas & Mack Center. Mayweather has an exhibition lined up against Mike Tyson this spring, with details still pending.
