Braves’ Early Burst Sinks Athletics in 4-0 Shutout

ATLANTA — The Athletics dropped to 0-4 on the season after a 4-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Monday night, as the Braves capitalized early and never looked back.

Atlanta struck for three runs in the first inning. Matt Olson doubled in a run and Mauricio Dubón followed with a two-RBI single, chasing Athletics starter Jacob Lopez after just four innings. Lopez (0-1) allowed five hits, five walks, and three earned runs while striking out none.

The Braves added a fourth run in the eighth. Mike Yastrzemski, who entered as a substitute for left fielder Eli White, ripped a line-drive triple to right field. Dubón then singled to drive him home, giving Dubón three RBIs on the night.

Dubón, a two-time Gold Glove winner (2023, 2025) at shortstop, was acquired by the Braves from the Astros in the offseason.

Bryce Elder (1-0) worked six strong innings for Atlanta, surrendering five hits with five strikeouts and one walk. The Athletics had chances but could not push a run across. Brent Rooker went 2 for 4 but grounded into a double play started by Dubón to end the eighth inning.

In the ninth, the Athletics mounted a brief threat when Jacob Wilson was thrown out at second on a grounder by Lawrence Butler. The play was originally ruled safe at first, but a successful challenge by the Braves overturned the call, resulting in a double play. Max Muncy then flied out to Olson to seal the shutout.

Nick Kurtz and Shea Langeliers each went 0 for 4 for the Athletics, who have yet to win a game this season. The Athletics are scheduled to relocate to Las Vegas in 2028.
