MILAN — Mark Stone and Mitch Marner, linemates for the Vegas Golden Knights, picked up right where they left off — this time on Olympic ice. The duo combined for a highlight-reel goal in the second period Thursday, helping Canada cruise to a 5-0 shutout over Czechia in preliminary-round play at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Marner started the sequence with a give-and-go with Sidney Crosby in the neutral zone. Cutting to the middle along the left wall, Marner delivered a saucer pass to Stone on the weak side, and Stone buried it at 6:40 to give Canada a 2-0 lead.
“Two Vegas Golden Knights combine for the Canada goal as Mitch Marner tees up Mark Stone with a beauty,” NBC Olympics posted on social media.
Canada, the heavy favorite entering the tournament, pulled away late for the surprising shutout victory. Tomas Hertl, Stone and Marner’s Golden Knights teammate, was on the losing side for Czechia.
Connor McDavid led the offensive charge with three assists, while Crosby added two helpers. Eleven different players recorded a point for Canada. Stone and Marner, both first-time Olympians, are seeking their first gold medal.
