Former Raiders DE Josh Mauro Dies at 35

TEMPE, Ariz. — Josh Mauro, a former NFL defensive end who spent time with the Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants, and Las Vegas Raiders, has died at age 35. The Cardinals, Raiders, and Mauro’s family confirmed his death last week on social media. No cause of death was provided.

The 6-foot-6, 290-pound Stanford product played eight NFL seasons, appearing in 80 games with 40 starts. He recorded five career sacks. His most productive year came in 2016 with the Cardinals, when he started 13 of 15 games and tallied 32 tackles. Mauro played his final NFL season in 2021, also with Arizona.

Mauro joined the Raiders in 2019, playing 13 games with seven starts. Current Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, who was a rookie that season, posted an emotional tribute on Instagram. “You were the first and probably the only vet to text me when I got drafted,” Crosby wrote. “We came from the same area in Texas — the DFW — literally from right down the street from me. … Bro, I cannot believe you’re gone. I truly can’t. … You always had my back. Always.”

The Cardinals released a statement saying, “We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Josh Mauro. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew him.” The Raiders added, “The deepest condolences of the Raiders Family are with Josh’s family and friends at this time.”
