John Tortorella isn’t adding anything to the statement the Vegas Golden Knights released after he was fined $100,000 by the NHL on Friday. The league also took away a second-round pick from the Knights because Tortorella skipped his media availability after a 5-1 Game 6 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.

“We put our statement out as an organization, so we’ll go by that,” Tortorella said. “We’ll have no more comment.”

The NHL said the punishments came “after previous warnings were issued to the Club regarding their compliance with the Media Regulations and other associated policies.” The Knights have the option to appeal, with a meeting with Commissioner Gary Bettman scheduled for next week.

With the fine behind him, Tortorella is focused on the Western Conference Final against the Colorado Avalanche. Game 1 is Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Ball Arena in Denver.

The Knights are 15-4-1 since Tortorella took over for Bruce Cassidy on March 29. They advanced to the conference final for the fifth time in franchise history by beating Utah in the first round and Anaheim in the second.

“I think the way we finished a couple of series here, I think we’ve gotten better as each series went on,” Tortorella said. “I think we feel really good of ourselves.”

Winger Mitch Marner leads the playoffs with 18 points. He credited Tortorella with helping the team rediscover its swagger.

Tortorella said the key has been staying “flatlined.”

“They don’t get too excited when things are going really well, and they certainly don’t lose themselves when they struggle,” he said. “Through both series, we’ve had some ups and downs. There’s been some peaks and valleys. I think that’s one of the biggest strengths of our team.”

The Avalanche won the Presidents’ Trophy and present the toughest challenge yet.
