Giovanni Guariglia of Silverado has been named the Las Vegas Review-Journal Boys Prep Athlete of the Week for March 23-28, earning 17,529 votes out of 28,817 total cast. The senior first baseman/pitcher received 60.8% of the vote, far ahead of Clark’s Ryland Gregorich (38.1%) and Mojave’s Jayden Patton (1.1%).
Guariglia, a TCU commit, hit his 10th home run of the season Saturday in the Skyhawks’ 7-0 victory over Spring Valley. It was his fourth homer of the week, and he is batting .304 with five doubles and 24 RBIs.
Gregorich, a sophomore pitcher/utility player for Clark, went 4-for-4 with a home run, a triple and two RBIs in a 12-2 win over Eldorado on Friday. He also earned the victory in that game and is batting .486 with three triples, two doubles and 15 RBIs.
Patton, a sophomore sprinter for Mojave, won the 200-meter event at the Las Vegas Track Classic on Saturday with a time of 21.53 seconds, the fourth-fastest in the meet’s 13-year history. With a month remaining in the season, he holds state-best times in the 100 meters (10.53), 200 meters (21.34) and 300-meter hurdles (39.85).
