Gavin McColl’s kill lifts No. 3 Centennial past No. 2 Arbor View in five-set classic

Middle blocker Gavin McColl delivered the game-winning kill as No. 3 Centennial outlasted No. 2 Arbor View 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 27-29, 15-11 in a high school boys volleyball showdown Tuesday night at Centennial High School.

The Bulldogs (13-4) rallied after dropping a tight fourth set 29-27, then seized control early in the decisive fifth. Centennial libero Ty Ahlstrom made several critical digs in the final frame to keep the Aggies at bay.

“We just stayed together as a team,” Centennial coach said after the match. “The energy from the crowd and our bench really pushed us through.”

Arbor View (9-4) was led by outside hitter Graham Blanchard, who battled at the net against Centennial setter RJ Regalado. The Aggies had won three straight sets before Tuesday’s defeat.

Centennial hosts Foothill at 6 p.m. Wednesday, while Arbor View travels to Spring Valley at 6 p.m. Monday.
