Tuesday’s high school sports slate featured standout pitching performances, offensive explosions, and a tightly contested boys volleyball match between two of the valley’s top teams.
Baseball
Several pitchers delivered dominant outings. Silverado senior Hogan Hawkins struck out nine while tossing a three-inning no-hitter in the Skyhawks’ 21-0 rout of Cadence. Clark sophomore Hudson Fraidenburg fanned five in a three-inning one-hitter as the Chargers crushed Valley 24-0. Doral Academy freshman Chance Schaefer hurled a five-inning one-hitter with 11 strikeouts in a 14-0 win over Mojave.
At the plate, Liberty junior Nevan Chandler went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, but the Patriots fell 14-8 to Mater (Fla.). Mater East junior Adrian Ramos homered and drove in two runs in a 15-0 victory over Desert Pines.
Softball
Foothill sophomore Gianna Butler tossed a three-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts as the Falcons beat Mater East 14-0. Faith Lutheran freshman Emery Gibson doubled, tripled, and drove in three runs in a 16-0 five-inning win over Sierra Vista. Legacy freshman Amelia McClerkin crushed two home runs, a double, and drove in seven runs to lead the Longhorns past Clark 14-3. Las Vegas freshman Paityn Lewis went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs in a 21-8 victory over Sunrise Mountain. Cadence freshman Maylise Smith went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs in an 18-7 win over Chaparral. Cimarron-Memorial junior Jasmine Ponce hit two home runs, a double, and drove in four runs in a 17-2 victory over Canyon Springs.
Boys volleyball
In the match of the night, Centennial outlasted Arbor View in five sets (22-25, 25-23, 18-25, 29-27, 15-11). Arbor View junior Risden Miller finished with 24 kills, 10 digs, and two blocks in the losing effort. Green Valley junior Alex Abad recorded 15 digs and four aces in a sweep of Mater East. Shadow Ridge junior Max Romzek posted 14 kills and six blocks in a five-set win over Boulder City.
