Jalen Nailor officially signed his contract with the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, bringing the former Bishop Gorman star back to the city where he made his name. The wide receiver, known as “Speedy,” addressed the media at the Intermountain Health Performance Center in Henderson after inking his deal.
Nailor, 27, spent the last four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, where he caught 69 passes for 11 touchdowns despite playing behind All-Pro Justin Jefferson. Now he joins a Raiders offense expected to be coordinated by Klint Kubiak, a system Nailor believes will maximize his versatility.
“Just having that ability to play multiple positions in the offense, move around, motions and things like that,” Nailor said. “I feel like with Kubiak’s offense, he does that very well with the guys trying to get them the ball and move them around. And I feel like that’s going to play right into my skill set.”
Nailor’s return comes as Las Vegas has transformed into a major sports market since he left for Michigan State in 2018, when the Golden Knights were still new and the Raiders were in Oakland. He said he is excited to see the city’s growth and believes the organization is headed in the right direction.
“I think it’s taken the right direction, especially with this organization, with this coaching staff,” Nailor said. “I think we’re going to set the bar high with how we want professional sports here in Las Vegas to be.”
The Raiders are expected to select quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft, and Nailor would be one of his primary targets. Nailor said he is eager to work with Mendoza, calling it “very exciting” to have a young quarterback of that caliber throwing him the ball.
Nailor also credited Jefferson for teaching him the importance of consistency. “He’s never too high or too low,” Nailor said. “He’s literally the same person every single day. No matter what is going on in his life, he’s always going to have a smile.”
