Sluggers Shine: Adame, Southisene Homer as Local Baseball Teams Dominate Thursday

Thursday’s high school baseball slate featured a flurry of offensive fireworks, with several players delivering multi-homer performances. Mojave senior Jaime Adame led the charge with three hits, including a home run and four RBIs, as the Rattlers rolled to a 15-0 victory over Valley in just four innings.

Basic senior Troy Southisene also went deep twice, powering the Wolves to an 11-2 win over Coronado. Sierra Vista freshman Ezekiel Travers matched that feat with two homers and three RBIs in a 9-3 triumph over Tech.

On the mound, Clark sophomore James Hatfield struck out 11 while allowing two hits over six innings in a 10-1 win against Cheyenne. Western junior Adrian Diaz contributed both at the plate and on the hill, going 2-for-3 with a home run and earning the win in a 15-0, three-inning rout of Desert Pines.

In other baseball action: Bishop Gorman edged Palo Verde 8-6; Centennial defeated Faith Lutheran 12-4; Durango rallied past Foothill 14-8; and Rancho crushed Sunrise Mountain 20-1.

Softball

Desert Oasis senior Kaitlyn Dunigan went 4-for-4 with a double and five RBIs to lead the Diamondbacks to a 22-0, three-inning win over Sierra Vista. Clark sophomore Alex Spatharos homered, doubled, tripled and drove in four runs in a 16-5 victory over Las Vegas. Silverado senior Yvonne Jimenez had three hits, including a home run and three RBIs, as the Skyhawks held off Cadence 13-12 after building a 13-run lead.

Other softball scores: Palo Verde 14, Green Valley 4; Arbor View 10, Doral Academy 3; Shadow Ridge 13, Centennial 8; Spring Valley 16, Valley 0.

Boys Volleyball

Arbor View junior Keagan Sugden dished out 38 assists to go with five digs and a block in a 25-10, 25-15, 25-19 sweep of Sky Pointe. Palo Verde junior Evan Ditmar recorded 13 kills as the Panthers beat Del Sol 25-13, 25-22, 25-18. Sierra Vista sophomore Jeven James tallied eight kills and two blocks in a four-set win over Durango.
