Coronado Sisters Shine at Southern Nevada High School Swim Meet

Lia and Grace Carrington each won individual events Thursday as Coronado’s girls swim team continued its strong start to the season at Pavilion Center Pool. Lia Carrington took the 100-yard backstroke in 1 minute, 3.46 seconds, while Grace Carrington won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.81. The Cougars are aiming for a fifth straight Class 5A state team title.

On the boys side, Boulder City’s Duncan McClaren swept the sprint freestyles, winning the 50-yard freestyle in 22.08 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 48.39 seconds. Liberty’s Ezekiel Pittman also doubled, taking the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.62) and the 100-yard backstroke (54.47).

Other winners included Centennial’s Sullivan Benes in the boys 200-yard IM (2:01.03), Legacy’s Andrei Fajardo in the boys 100-yard butterfly (55.91), and Green Valley’s Nathan Jobin in the boys 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.68).

In girls competition, Palo Verde’s Calista Ortega won the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.88), Liberty’s Alexa Pittman took the 200-yard IM (2:16.82), and Spring Valley’s Caris Pollack and Liberty’s Zealin Prescott tied for first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.12). Coronado’s Ava Estrada won the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.93), and Centennial’s Maddy Dawidian captured the 100-yard freestyle (55.78).
