Raiders add former first-round LB Quay Walker to bolster 3-4 transition

The Las Vegas Raiders continued their aggressive free-agent approach by signing former Green Bay Packers linebacker Quay Walker to a three-year, $40.5 million deal. The move addresses a critical need as the team shifts to a 3-4 base defense under new coordinator Rob Leonard.

Walker, a first-round pick in 2022, joins former Georgia teammate Nakobe Dean in Las Vegas. The Raiders signed Dean earlier in the day, reuniting the college duo who helped the Bulldogs win a national championship.

At 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Walker brings elite athleticism and a downhill playing style. He has shown the ability to be an intimidating presence near the line of scrimmage and can cover ground sideline-to-sideline. However, questions remain about his coverage skills.

Despite those concerns, the Raiders are betting on Walker’s high ceiling. The contract, while significant for an off-ball linebacker, is structured to avoid long-term risk.
