Nevada State tops La Sierra 51-20 in historic college flag football opener

The Las Vegas Raiders hosted the state’s first college flag football game Friday at the Intermountain Health Performance Center in Henderson, where Nevada State University defeated La Sierra 51-20.

The Scorpions, who have applied for NAIA membership, faced the NAIA Golden Eagles in the first of four games in the Inaugural Kick-Off Classic. The event also featured teams from Arizona State and Arizona Christian University.

Before the game, a ceremony included Nevada State acting President Dr. Amber Lopez Lasater and Raiders senior director of football development Myles Hayes.

Flag football has grown rapidly in Nevada high schools, with the NIAA among the first in the nation to recognize it as a varsity sport.
