Klint Kubiak’s first coaching staff as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders is taking shape with four new additions announced Wednesday, including a familiar face for the offensive coordinator turned head coach.
Zach Azzanni, who worked alongside Kubiak with the Denver Broncos in 2022, will serve as wide receivers coach. Azzanni brings nine years of NFL experience, most recently with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He previously coached in Denver from 2018 to 2022, where he helped develop Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, and Tim Patrick.
Omar Young will take over as running backs coach, replacing Deland McCullough. Young spent the last two seasons at Iowa coaching running backs and has previous NFL stints with the New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, and Cleveland Browns. McCullough is expected to become the running backs coach at Oklahoma.
On defense, Ronell Williams will lead the linebackers after two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles as assistant linebackers coach and defensive quality control coach. He helped oversee the breakout of Zack Baun. Al Holcomb, a 17-year NFL veteran, joins as senior defensive assistant to support first-time defensive coordinator Rob Leonard. Holcomb was interim defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers in 2022 and spent the past three years with the Buffalo Bills.
Azzanni’s coaching roots run deep: he spent three years as an assistant head coach and receivers coach at his alma mater, Central Michigan, where he helped recruit Antonio Brown. He also served as a graduate assistant under Urban Meyer at Bowling Green.
Young, an Oakland native, has experience on offense and special teams at both the NFL and college levels. Williams earned a graduate degree from Temple while working as a graduate assistant there.
