Klint Kubiak has completed his coordinator staff, tapping Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko as offensive coordinator and South Carolina special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis for the same role, the Las Vegas Raiders announced Sunday.
Janocko, 37, will be a first-time offensive coordinator, though Kubiak said at his introductory news conference that he will call plays. Janocko has worked with Kubiak in Minnesota, New Orleans and Seattle.
DeCamillis, 60, brings more than three decades of NFL special teams coaching experience, including Super Bowl wins with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams. He spent the past two seasons as associate head coach and special teams coordinator at South Carolina.
The moves follow Saturday’s promotion of Rob Leonard from defensive run-game coordinator to defensive coordinator.
Janocko is expected to work closely with quarterback Fernando Mendoza, whom the Raiders are projected to select with the No. 1 pick in April’s draft. Assistant head coach Mike McCoy, who has extensive quarterback coaching experience, will also mentor Mendoza alongside Kubiak.
Former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr praised the pairing on the podcast “Home Grown.”
“Andrew Janocko, love him, love him. He helped me play great football. Like amazing. The standard. All those things. (Kubiak and Janocko) are like peanut butter and jelly, man. You can’t separate them. If they did, I would be shocked.”
Janocko played quarterback at Pitt from 2007 to 2010 and previously coached with the Vikings, Buccaneers and Bears.
DeCamillis, an All-America wrestler at Wyoming, won Super Bowls with Denver in 2015 (when Gary Kubiak was head coach) and with the Rams. He also coached special teams for the Bears, Cowboys, Giants, Falcons and Jaguars.
The Raiders also hired Giants assistant defensive line coach Matt Robinson as secondary coach and retained Joe Woods as defensive pass-game coordinator/defensive backs coach.
