Kubiak, fresh off Super Bowl win, takes over 3-14 Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders officially introduced Klint Kubiak as their new head coach Tuesday, just two days after the 38-year-old helped guide the Seattle Seahawks to a 29-13 Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots. The introductory press conference took place at the team’s Intermountain Health Performance Center in Henderson.

Kubiak, whose father Gary won a Super Bowl as head coach of the Denver Broncos in 2016, becomes the first father-son duo in NFL history to each win a Super Bowl as a coach. When asked about that distinction, Kubiak responded with surprise: “Is that a real stat? Is that a real deal?”

Flanked by Raiders legends Mike Haynes, Howie Long, Marcus Allen, Jim Plunkett, Charles Woodson, and Rich Gannon, Kubiak addressed a range of topics, from his coaching staff to the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft.

Maxx Crosby’s future

Kubiak said he met with star defensive end Maxx Crosby over coffee Tuesday morning and expressed a desire to keep him in Las Vegas. “We want him to be part of our success going forward,” Kubiak said.

Building the coaching staff

Kubiak said he is working with general manager John Spytek to assemble a staff. “We’re trying to put together a great staff of teachers,” he said. “I think if we can put together a great staff and get the players up to date on these playbooks … and let the results speak for themselves.”

Ashton Jeanty’s potential

Running back Ashton Jeanty, the Raiders’ first-round pick in 2025, struggled as a rookie behind a shaky offensive line. Kubiak said he watched Jeanty play multiple times at Boise State and is “very excited about his skill set and what he brings.”

Quarterback decision

With the No. 1 overall pick, the Raiders have been linked to Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Kubiak did not mention Mendoza by name, saying the team has “a lot of tape to watch” before deciding. “The resources the Raiders have, having cap space, having the first pick, those all go into the decision,” he said.

Why Kubiak left Seattle

Kubiak said he had the option to remain as Seattle’s offensive coordinator but called the Raiders job a “no-brainer.” “The main thing is this, is no ordinary job. This is the silver and black,” he said.

Spytek joked that Kubiak will get Wednesday off to participate in the Seahawks’ Super Bowl parade before returning to work Thursday.
