The Athletics traded infielder Max Schuemann to the New York Yankees on Monday, receiving minor league right-hander Luis Burgos in return.
Burgos, 20, spent last season in the Dominican Summer League, posting a 4-4 record with a 3.39 ERA over 25 games. He struck out 71 and walked 42 in 79.2 innings. The Yankees originally signed him out of the Dominican Republic in 2024.
Schuemann had been designated for assignment by the Athletics on Friday after the club claimed infielder Andy Ibañez off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 27-year-old Schuemann appeared in 37 games for the A’s last season, hitting .220 with two home runs and 11 RBIs. He also spent time with the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators.
