A Las Vegas bettor has guaranteed himself a massive payday in Super Bowl 60, securing a profit of either $4.9 million or $3.4 million no matter which team wins Sunday.
The gambler placed $1.1 million at Circa Sports and $725,000 at BetMGM on the New England Patriots money line, hedging against preseason futures bets on the Seattle Seahawks that could pay $6.75 million if Seattle wins the Super Bowl.
According to Circa vice president Mike Palm, the bettor came in during August and placed multiple $50,000 futures wagers on the Seahawks: to make the playoffs at +180, to win the NFC West at 6-1, to win the NFC at 37-1, and to win the Super Bowl at 75-1. He had already cashed the first three, and a Seahawks Super Bowl win would net him $3.75 million from Circa alone.
“He’s locked it up,” Palm said.
The Circa hedge bet on the Patriots at +188 odds would pay nearly $2.1 million. If Seattle wins, the bettor profits $2.65 million from Circa; if New England wins, he nets $2 million.
At BetMGM, the same bettor had already won about $1.5 million on the Seahawks — $1.4 million for winning the NFC and $92,500 for making the playoffs. A Seahawks Super Bowl victory would add another $3 million at 60-1 odds. His $725,000 hedge on the Patriots at +195 would pay $1.41 million, securing a profit of either $2.275 million (Seahawks win) or $1.36 million (Patriots win).
“We had the guy that bet early in the year on the Seahawks. He absolutely came back with a hedge bet, so he’s a winner either way,” said MGM Resorts director of trading Lamarr Mitchell. “He’s in a good spot.”
Including all futures and hedge bets, the gambler stands to win a total of $8.1 million if the Seahawks win the Super Bowl or $6.6 million if the Patriots prevail.
Seattle is a 4½-point favorite with a consensus total of 45½. Palm noted that the big bettor lost a $500,000 hedge on the Rams in the NFC Championship, but this time “he’s not taking the points.”
“His hedge bet is what’s flipped it for us,” Palm said. “Otherwise we were pulling for New England. Right now, we’re pulling for Seattle.”
Mitchell said MGM is currently a loser on the Patriots and on the Seahawks futures, adding that the Seahawks are a winner for the book on the money line and spread, and the over is winning.
