Raiders’ Kubiak to target Seahawks QB coach Janocko as offensive coordinator

The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to hire Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as their next head coach after the Super Bowl, and the search for his offensive coordinator is already taking shape.

Andrew Janocko, currently the Seahawks quarterbacks coach, emerges as the front-runner. He worked with Kubiak in New Orleans and Minnesota, and helped Sam Darnold have a strong season in Seattle. At 37, Janocko is a former Pitt quarterback who began his NFL career under Greg Schiano with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If Janocko gets the job, veteran offensive line coach John Benton and run game coordinator Rick Dennison are expected to follow Kubiak to Las Vegas. Dennison, 67, is unlikely to be the OC but could serve as an offensive adviser. Jake Peetz might be promoted to Seahawks OC.

Other candidates include Justin Outten, Seattle’s run game specialist and assistant offensive line coach. Outten, 42, was Denver’s OC in 2022 and has a close relationship with Kubiak. He helped revive the Seahawks’ running game late this season.

Brian Callahan, recently fired as Titans head coach, also has ties. He worked under Gary Kubiak in Denver and with Raiders GM John Spytek, and was the Raiders’ QB coach in 2018. He is also interviewing with the New York Giants.

Chandler Whitmer, co-OC and QB coach at Indiana, coached Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza. At 34, he could be a QB coach candidate to ease Mendoza’s transition.

Kliff Kingsbury is a long shot given his desire for play-calling duties and a complicated history with the Raiders. He is a top candidate for the Giants’ OC job.
